Message from the Supreme President

 

In my role as President of The Cyprus Federation of America, I am honored to be a part of an institution such as this.  We are proud of the fact that we have over 25 chapter members throughout the United States that work closely to promote our Cypriot heritage, culture and Hellenic ideals.

Through this website, we hope to give you a glimpse of how the Cypriot American community works in unity to achieve the above mentioned goals.

 THE CYPRUS FEDERATION OF AMERICA AND THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE "JUSTICE FOR CYPRUS" HOLDS MEMORIAL SERVICE COMMEMORATING

 JULY 20TH

 

 

The Cyprus Federation of America and the International Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus" held a Memorial Service on Sunday, July 18th commemorating the July 20th, 1974 Invasion of Cyprus by Turkey.   The service was held at St. Catherine's Church in Astoria, New York and officated by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios.  Many dignitaries attended including H.E. Aglaia Balta, Consul General of Greece, The Honorable Koula Sofianou, Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Panicos Papanicolaou, Cyprus Federation President, Mr. Philip Christopher, President of the International Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus" (Pseka), The Honorable Michael Giannaris, Ms. Aravella Simota, Mr. Nikos Mouyiaris, Executive Vice President of Pancyprian, Mr. Andreas Comodromos, Chairman of the Cyprus U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Members of the CFA Executive Committe, and Presidents of Member Organizations.   Speeches and remembrances were made at the coffee reception that was hosted by CFA and PSEKA.  Many events will be held in Washington, D.C. from July 20th through July 23.

 The 26 children that participated in the Cyprus hospitality program for ten days were taught the rich history of cyprus by touring museums, archeological sites, monasteries and learn about the rich history and culture of cyprus.  they had a special meeting with the president of the republic of cyprus, mr. demetris christofias.

The Children Visited The President of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Christofias who told the children to become ambassadors of their homeland 
in the countries they live in. Speaking to the children about the situation in Cyprus, he said the goal is to free
Cyprus of the Turkish occupation troops and allow the Cypriots to decide how they want to live together and 
how to run their country. The visit took  place two days before the anniversary of the July 15  of 1974 military 
Coup against the then President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III who managed to escape but returned to the 
island in December the same year. Five days after the coup, Turkish troops invaded Cyprus.  They were informed,
about Makarios escape route and the consequences of the tragedy that hit the island.  The twenty six American 
born children were also received by the House of Representatives President Marios Gharoyan and Archbishop Chrysostomos.
 The children’s trip was organized by The Cyprus Federation of America and paid by the Cypriot Foreign Ministry
