Supreme President Receives Honor from Pancyprian Association of Florida

The Pancyprian Association of Florida honored Ahepa Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas  with the “2011 Man of the Year” at their annual awards banquet held in Clearwater, Fla., on January 15, 2011. President of the Pancyprian Association of Florida Angela Georgiadis presented the supreme president with the “Kyrenia Award.”

More than 300 persons, attended the awards banquet and dance held at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

“I am extremely touched and humbled by this honor, and I sincerely thank the Pancyprian Association and its president, Angela Georgiadis,” Karacostas said. “It means so much to be recognized by my peers in the community and to receive a beautiful award fittingly named after the town in which I was born. I’m deeply moved.”

In his acceptance, Karacostas spoke about his family’s challenging experience of immigrating to the United States in 1966 when he was just three years old and how that experience molded him to become the individual he is today. He credited a strong family upbringing and the support of countless friends in the community through organizations such as the Sons of Pericles, AHEPA, and the Pancyprian Association. Karacostas also thanked his family for their endless support over the years. In closing, he stressed AHEPA’s ongoing commitment to the Cyprus issue and pledged to continue elevating the visibility of the issue in the public’s eye.
